Derek is an accomplished energy industry veteran with over 30 years of leadership experience in operations, asset management, and project development. As the Chief Operating Officer at Sol Systems, he plays a key role in driving the company's ambitious growth strategy, overseeing its operations and execution to advance clean energy solutions across the nation.

Before joining Sol Systems, Porter was instrumental in founding Earthrise Energy and served as its COO. His career includes notable leadership roles at NextEra Energy, Panda Power Funds, and AES Corporation, where he led diverse energy projects spanning solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, biogas, and battery storage technologies. Porter’s career also includes leadership positions at Covanta Energy, where he managed operations across numerous plants globally. Derek holds a degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University.
