Sol Systems developed a 3 MW solar project located in Capitol Heights, Maryland, arranging the financing and construction of the project before selling it to Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company. The electricity generated by the project will be sold to WGL Energy Services, who will then exclusively provide it to Under Armour over 12 years. The solar project will produce enough energy to power the equivalent of 333 average U.S. homes annually while contributing approximately $1.4 million in tax revenue to Prince George’s County over the length of its service.
Project Impacts
Project Site Development
The project site had been used as an unregulated construction material dump. This caused some mild contamination in the soil, making it too unstable to build foundations for any kind of actual buildings. Sol Systems redeveloped the site with the solar array and completely cleaned up the dirty, trash and weed filled, undevelopable areas into a beautiful solar development with new flood-control measures built and funded by the PV system.
