Sol Systems constructed a 225 kW solar array on the school’s rooftop and over a portion of its parking lot at no cost to them. Estimates indicate that the school saved over $6,000 in the system’s first year of operation. Sol Systems executed a follow-on PPA with KIPP DC for a separate campus in 2015 and constructed a 280 kW solar photovoltaic system on the school’s rooftop. The second campus is estimated to save approximately $23,000 in the system’s first year of operation. Both sites will serve an educational purpose as students are exposed to the system through science-based lesson plans, and will have the ability to monitor system performance in real time.
