In May 2021, Sol Systems and Sun Tribe announced a partnership with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to develop and finance the first utility-scale solar projects on former coal mines in southwest Virginia. The solar projects will be located within the Cumberland Forest in Southwest Virginia, Eastern Tennessee, and Eastern Kentucky, which is managed by TNC and owned by its Cumberland Forest, LP impact investment fund.
